Hi

First of all, I very much like this contest. The people behind it seem very motivated and steadily improve the system with new features and bug fixes. Thanks for that!

Nevertheless, I'd like to propose a small improvement: There are certain maps, that seem to have only one possible outcome; if both bots play halfway decent, a draw appears inevitably. In all of those maps, both players have to run to the middle, where they crash. If one of them does not go straight to the center of the map, the other bot can easily win the game.
Here are four examples: , , , .

Most of the other maps seem ok, and even between two top players, the outcome is not clear. To the contrary, the games often are very exciting. =)

Those maps really aren't that interesting and only lead to draws =)

I see draws in those games, though I do not see intelligent bots and all the spaces filled.

sure 1 will win in that situation. But you're assuming that they're both good spacefillers.
If 1 turns suicides shortly after capturing that middle part 2 still wins.

Yeah, of course you're right. I'm only talking about intelligent bots here. Filling the space should be absolutely no problem for 1 (otherwise, the bot really needs some improvement.. ;-))

The maps are ok for weak bots, but as soon as it comes to the top players, they are just useless. So why not just remove them, and replace them by maps that can be played by both strong and weak bots? ;)

With symmetrical maps and simultaneous movement I'm pretty sure every map is a draw with perfect play. So the criteria for for removing a map should probably be if it's producing too many draws to provide useful differentiation between engines. Hopefully the organizers are (or can) track the percentage of draws by map and pull out the ones that are too high.

Will these draw-generator maps get removed? Examples are u.txt and ring.txt.

Nope, we were actually forced to remove the more interesting maps(and bigger) to compensate for the slowdown.
