Rules - in depth

Postby jiaeric » Thu Feb 04, 2010 11:14 pm

A few quick questions regarding some rules:

A) We are not allowed to design against specific players. What about specific strategies?

B) Are we allowed to design based on certain maps? What about map sizes?

C) Am I allowed to store pre-generated information?

All of the example boards are symmetric (for fairness, I assume?). Will this be true for all of the boards the competition is run on, as well?

For now we have symmetric maps.

We're still deciding on asymmetric maps, however be assured that it will be fair if we do decide to use them.

Out of curiosity, could you give a sense of how you'd reason about the fairness of an asymmetric map?

One idea I put forward is to play against the same enemy 2 times on that asymmetric map, but with the positions reversed.

So map will only qualify as fair if all pairs of opponents have a consistent winner, regardless of sides? Also, would this continue to hold if the bots use randomness in their strategy?

You mentioned that the bot cannot do file operations, does this include HTTP or network communication?

It says that our code can take no longer than one second to come up with a move. When this happens it says that we can be suspended from further play. Does this just means that our current submitted code will no longer be tested in competition but we can submit new code? Also how will we know if our code violated the one second rule or if it just lost because we ran into a wall?
