C# not compiling

Postby codefun64 » Tue Oct 19, 2010 8:45 am

Hi, I'm new to mono and compiling with it instead of the normal .NET compiler to produce my .exe's... but I can't seem to compile my bot, or any other C# files inside the starter kit, because there are references to the game's names like "Planetwars" is in my bot, and so won't compile because it doesn't recognize it. How do I fix this? Also I've been reading about an issue where unless you're lucky, C# can't be submitted to the server. Is this true?

You should add ALL files from starter package to your project (including PlanetWars.cs).

Issue about C# submitting is true, but you can create strong bot without submitting, using TCP server for testing. Or just try to submit it every 10 seconds and finally you will do it.

Yep, TCP works great. It would be useful to get a word from the admins about whether C# will actually be functional for the final month of the competition. If it's not, no point wasting time with it.

My C# code won't compile (I heard that they've got C# 3 working), how do I know the reason for that? I didn't get any emails, and on my profile page it says that the code didn't compile, no further explanation is given.

Anyway, just wondering how should the C# submission be formatted? I rewrote the engine from scratch so now I have about 15 .cs files. There are no classes named PlanetWars, but there is a class with the static void Main() method; I thought that should be enough?

You must have a MyBot.cs file.

Thanks, glevee! It still fails, but at least now it recognizes the submission as a C# program. I've modified the starter package to test C# 3 syntax, it seems to work, so the problem must be with my code. Too bad there is no build log available.
