contestbot (official irc channel rankings bot)

Postby amstan » Wed Sep 08, 2010 3:22 am

The irc channel has a bot called contestbot, administered by myself(uses supybot).

Theres a ton of commands(use /msg contestbot commands, and then /msg contestbot more), here's a few popular ones:
  • rankings <num> : top <num> players, defaults to 10 players
  • later tell <nick> <message> : it will send <message> to <nick> the first time it sees him active
  • where/what/whatis/url <key> : access a factoid(snippet of text). keys include: 'issues', 'repo', 'forums', 'tcpserver', 'botrepo', and 'visualizer'
  • learn <key> as <value> : add a new factoid
  • hi/bye : self explanatory
You can either use "contestbot: <command>" or "@<command>" for giving commands.

Here is the repository for the contest plugin that i made for it: http://github.com/amstan/contestbot

Please use this thread for suggestions on features to add.

So, games are hard to navigate right now. Suggested features:
    1. telling the bot a number 12345 prints out "Game 12345: aaa beat bbb - http://ai-contest.com/visualizer.php?game_id=12345"
    2. after giving a link to a game, the bot finds the game # and prints out the same thing
    3. similarly, telling the bot a username prints out the user's most recent game
    4. telling the bot a pair of usernames finds the most recent game between them

A search box or similar on the website that did this too would be nice. :)

Oh, and if you could post the bot's source somewhere, you might get patches instead of requests.

Also, publicly logging the channel would be nice too.

Good ideas. I've changed the bot to use supybot. So we need to either write plugins that do all that, or write some aliases(it seems like the scripting features are good enough for this).
Logging is on right now, i just have to post them somewhere with http.
