Post-competition Conference

Postby jmange » Tue Sep 28, 2010 8:09 pm

I don't know if this would be possible or not, but in some other competitions of this type I have been involved with, the organizers have a post-competition conference, where the top-performing entrants have a chance to submit papers or posters and then present their approach in person. It seems like a nice way to get people together and to share algorithm and research ideas.

I'll admit that I suggest this somewhat selfishly -- as a graduate student it is much more justifiable to spend time working on this if there is the possibility of something getting published in the future.

This would require a lot of money. But it would be awesome.

It would up front, but depending on how much interest there is I would imagine you could charge a registration fee to cover costs.

But of course I could be misjudging since I would be counting on convincing my department to pay for me. :D

An actual conference might not be feasible, but allowing the top guys to submit papers to the website (or perhaps a video presentation or something) might be workable.
