Ideas for the Future

Capturing Enemy Hills

Postby aguywhoisme » Fri Oct 21, 2011 4:04 pm

I checked the first two pages of the forum and didn't see any mention of this, so please excuse me if the idea has been previously discussed. Borrowing a concept from last years Planet Wars game, and various other rts games, what if rather than razing enemy hills, you captured them?

This would add an extra incentive to attack hills. On top of the current incentive of cutting off your enemy's supply line, the extra hill could be used to generate a second ant for every food item eaten. If you've captured three hills, you generate three ants with every food item eaten, etc.

Additionally, it would give the enemy bot (or yours) the opportunity to recognize its hill's capture, and attempt to recapture it before losing all of its ants.

We are probably not going to change any game mechanics after launch. This would mean editing all starter bots and all the contestant's bots.

This idea was discussed and rejected. A hill being razed makes the game end sooner when it can't be used anymore.
