There's a twist, flagCapper jumped over him while xathis didn't play (rank was probably not enough stabilized). But it became worse, xathis got last in few moments later.

It should be possible to conceal your skill pretty effectively during development. Most bots seem to have pretty separable behaviors: tactical resolution, food tracking, foraging, exploration, visibility coverage, home defense, symmetry analysis, attack planning and so on. Once you're happy with the way you've implemented one, you could back off to a weaker version of it, then work on your next bit. For example, you can get interesting and important information about your bot even if it doesn't know anything about enemy ants... but it won't be a contender. Be sure to submit your bot often enough that you don't get more than a few games against a strong one, putting yourself on the radar.

Making the names available would greatly simplify forming teams, too... not sure you'd want that. If you had twenty top-200 people on a team you'd have a good chance of having an ally or two in each game.

I don't know how you eliminate the local TCP operations in an open-source environment, though, nor do I think you'd want to. They served a very important function here, where occasionally we wouldn't get official games more than once or twice a day.
