I am in a similar position. I was in the usually in the 30s before the finals and in the 70s now. However, I expected this. Pre-finals, many of the top players were not even submitting their new and improved bots -- they were only testing them on the tcp servers. Also, at any given time, bots that were regularly submitting were often taking days to climb back up the ranks to their appropriate position, so top bots were often way down in the rankings.

My last submission was placed 30th and each of my last 3 submission got into top 50 in 30-40 games.
Now I barely placed in top 100... It was very unexpected I will go kill myself with a wall.
I realize that my algorithm is far from the ideal, but this gap between my current and previous positions is unbelievable.

This seems to be typical for the AI Challenge, since a lot of the top bots are either refined on the TCP servers and not uploaded to the official server or are reuploaded a lot and still climbing ranks.

If it makes you feel better: I had a top 100 bot in Planet Wars but ended up 287th (I think) in the final rankings.

The cutoff is now going to 750 over roughly the next hour arriving at 7am EST, 12:00 UTC. It will probably only stay there briefly while making sure nothing breaks then go to 500. I'll make another post when that happens.

Do you cut off users or ranks? What I mean is, if the cutoff threshold is n, and my rank is n+1, will I be forever cut off or is it possible for me to get back into the game if someone with a rank of m < n falls behind me?

The cutoff is rank based. So yes if you're just outside the cutoff and enough people fall out you can get back in.

The cutoff is now making what will likely be its final move to rank 500 over the next 90 minutes arriving at 9:00am EST.

This has been great fun, really enjoyed it, exactly why I got into computing!
