That style of map will not be excluded from the finals.

I don't think any particular map is totally reliant on luck. If you can find a way to recognize the boards you do badly on and adapt to them, one should be able to succeed on any map.

I disagree that multi-player maps are inherently unfair. They're just testing a different facet of skill. If you watch ChrisH do the clusterfu... err, clusterfun style of map, with multiple densely packed hills, you'll agree that there's a lot of cleverness that can be applied. Switching briefly to the real world, consider Quatre Bras, the run-up to the battle of Waterloo. Napoleon struck at the point between the Prussian forces under Bluecher and the allied (largely English) forces under Wellington. With one corps he held back the English while forcing the Prussians to retreat and lose contact, then followed the English to Waterloo for the final pitched battle. If the Prussians hadn't been able to come around the long way and regain contact (a very difficult maneuver), it would have been a French victory. Similarly, you can protect yourself minimally on one side while bum-rushing the other side... unless you're unlucky.

I *do* think it's likely that luck plays a larger part on those maps, and I don't do well on them... but I don't agree that they should be eliminated. They're one part of the big picture. Playing matches on two-player maps doesn't tell you who has the best bot: it tells you who has the best bot on two-player maps.
