Yeah, I think something's definitely broken...
I'm all in favor of giving the top bots more games to help solidify rankings. However, I expect to place in the 200's, but I've only got 4 games so far. That's nowhere near enough to get my rank where it needs to be. Any bot that gets there first and has a dozen games under its belt will have a much higher sigma and won't budge even if mine is better. Obviously this isn't just something that concerns me, but it should concern almost every bot.
Also, did something change w/ the cpu time the bots are getting? Is the turn time different now? I've never had a timeout on the server before, but right before the official competition, I got one. I ran the replay locally and was fine. Shouldn't have mattered anyway as there's enough time checks sprinkled in to prevent his. Chalked it up to random 'wtf' chance and moved on w/ my life. Anyway, I'll often take the replay down and run a diff when I run the bot locally (with infinite time) to see if it ever makes any different decisions. Before the competition I was getting maybe 4-5 differences per game, all pretty minor (my bot can stop processing any time it likes, the longer it goes the 'better' it's solution). However, one of my server games generated over 100 differences, including some ants that didn't move, which implies that my code interrupted itself very late in the turn, definitely something I have not seen before.
