Another round of thanks to all the contest organizers. As an AI noob, and a programmer with average skills, it was a great learning experience for me. And ofcourse, people like a1k0n, Memetix, Darhuuk have earned special cheers for discussing wonderful ideas even before the finals! I can't wait for the next challenge! Though I don't have much hope of finishing in the top 500 in this context, I'll try my best next time.
Apart from the AI concepts, I also learnt that slower (interpreted) languages should be used only in the first 2 weeks for experimentation. If you stick to them because of ease of development, you might end up regretting later when speed matters!
EDIT: I don't want to get involved in arguments of the kind "your algorithm is more important than choice of language". I know that makes sense, but for good combat in this contest, I believe every millisecond saved counts. And as Frantic as pointed out below, some language limitations are hard to overcome.
